      Estimado señor George: Lo saludo desde Puerto Ordaz - 
Venezuela, luego de haber hablado con el amigo Eduardo 
Boccardo de CVG Ferrominera Orinoco.
      Mi nombre es José Rafael Parra y soy Ing. Civil Jubilado 
de Ferrominera, en donde trabajé en las gerencias de Ingeniería 
y Proyectos entre los años 1.976 y 2.003. Mi familia se 
desarrolló en Puerto Ordaz y aquí nació Jesús Rafael, mi hijo, 
que actualmente cuenta con 20 años de edad y aprendió a jugar 
el golf en el Club Caronoco con mucha calidad, hasta tal punto 
que en este momento, por ese motivo, se encuentra becado por la 
universidad Ouachita Baptist University en Arkansas. En donde 
forma parte del equipo de golf de esa universidad (handicap 1.1).
      La beca asciende al 75% del costo en cada semestre y el 
otro 25% lo debemos aportar los padres desde acá de Venezuela, 
además de lo correspondiente a otros gastos de vida.
      Como ustedes podran imaginarse, se trata de un cargo 
significativo (más de US$1.000.oo al mes) y nos queda dificil 
cumplirlo.
      Ahora bien, mi hijo me dice que existe la posibilidad de 
obtener un préstamo en USA con el fin de solventar la situación 
y para ello necesita un fiador solvente. Hablando con el 
Sr. Boccardo, quien nos conoce muy bien, ventilamos la posibilidad 
de "tocar la puerta" entre el grupo de personas vinculadas que 
fueron a la Orinoco Iron y a la Iron Mine para pedirles el favor 
de que alguno de ustedes nos afiance a Jesús Rafael para la 
solicitud del préstamo estudiantil.
      Jesús Rafael esta estudiando el 2º año de Business Finance 
en la mencionada universidad. De mi pueden ser referencias personas 
de bastante tiempo en Ferrominera, como el actual Presidente de 
la Empresa, Geólogo Cesa Bertani, el Dr. Anival La Riva, el mismo 
Sr. Eduardo Boccardo y siempre estoy dispuesto a responder por 
las actuaciones de mi hijo.

Dear Mr. George,
Greetings from Puerto Ordaz.  I've just spoken to my friend, 
Eduard Boccardo of CVG.  My name is Jose Rafael Parra and I'm a 
civil engineer, retired from CVG, where I worked in management 
of Engineering and Projects from 1976 to 2003.
 
My family grew up in Puerto Ordaz.  This is where my son, Jesus 
Rafael, was born.  He's actually 20 years old now and learned 
how to play golf very well at Club Caronoco.  To that end, he 
received a scholarship to Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas 
where he's part of the university's golf team.  His handicap is 1.1.
 
The scholarship covers 75% of expenses each semester, and the 
remaining 25% we, his parents, have to cover from here in Venezuela 
along with all other normal costs of living.
 
Now -- my son tells me that there exists the possibility of getting 
a loan in the US that he could pay back later and for that he 
would need a solvent guarantor.  Speaking to Mr. Boccardo, whom we 
know well, we discussed the possibility of touching base with the 
group of people who were tied to OMC to ask the favor if one of them 
could act as guarantor for Jesus Rafael with regard to his student 
loan.  
 
Jesus Rafael is studying in his second year of business finance at 
the aforementioned university.  From me they could get many personal 
references from people who've worked a long time for CVG like the 
actual president of the business Bertani Geological, Dr. Anvil La 
Riva or Mr. Eduard Boccardo.  I'm always ready to answer anything 
about my son.
